Delphine’s story

Corporate health & Wellbeing…I had no idea what it was 15 years ago, and still, I was drawn to it in a rather tragic way, when I moved to work for an investment bank in London. I arrived from my native Switzerland and discovered with surprise and pleasure the world of the city: its speed, its buzz, its hectic pace, its 24/7 working hours, and its workforce constantly in a hurry. In London you don’t walk on the streets, you literally run.

The bank I worked for was on Fleet Street, on the same street as all the other banks and organisations that operated at a similar pace. I was fascinated by this world that was so different from the one I came from. I found it so innovative and practical to have access on site to several cafeterias open almost 24 hours a day, a creche, a hairdresser, a dentist, a florist, a dry cleaner, etc. At the time, none of these facilities existed in Switzerland. Then one day everything changed. An employee from one of the banks next door jumped from the 5th floor and tragically died by suicide. Too much pressure, too much time spent in the office, too many projects, too many responsibilities… and the loss of connection with his life, his wellbeing. What I had pictured as ‘THE’ perfect solution for a positive, innovative and efficient economy had gradually transformed as ‘THE’ reason for employee’s suffering, unhappiness, illbeing.

This was and still is my motivation to focus on employees’ health and well-being in a world in constant change, with increasing complexity.
